By EMT Bryan Baker
October 31, 2009

At 0636 hours on Halloween morning, Downingtown Fire Department was alerted to the 200 block of Robbins Rd for an automatic fire alarm. Within minutes of dispatch of the call, Downingtown Police Department was onscene reporting heavy smoke pouring from the roof of the building. Downingtown chiefs arrived onscene with heavy fire burning through the roof. A working fire dispatch was requested. A second alarm was requested shortly afterwards as an external fire attack was started by first alarm companies. A partial collapse of the B side of the structure was observed during fire attack.

The fire was placed under control within 45 minutes and overhaul operations commenced for quite some time.

Thank you to Tower 28 (Parkesburg Fire Co.), Engine 38 (Thorndale Fire Co.), Engine 33-5 (Honey Brook Fire Co.), and Engine 5-2 (East Whiteland Fire Co.) for standing by in the Borough as units were operating at the fire scene.

Also, during response to the fire scene, Air 46 came across a motor vehicle accident with confinement at Rt. 322 and Boot Road. This location is less than 500 yards from the fire scene. Air 46 alerted the County about the accident and Engine 5-2, enroute from East Whiteland Fire Co., was dispatched to assist with the accident. Squad 46 with Medic 46-2 on board arrived shortly afterwards and assisted at the scene. Crews assisted in freeing the patient from the vehicle and then proceeded on to the fire scene.
