By EMT Bryan Baker
September 12, 2009

Today, the two ambulances and medic unit that run out of Station 46 kept the normal pattern of the week by staying busy answering calls. But today, fire units also keep busy by running four fire calls and assisting ambulance 46 on a call right down the street from the station.

The morning started out shortly after 0400 hours with an Automatic Fire Alarm responded to by Downingtown Fire Department (Alert #1 and Minquas #2). Engine 46-1 arrived and found no problems concluding that no services were needed from the fire department. The second call of the day was 1518 hours when Ambulance and Medic 46 responded to the 300 block of East Lancaster Ave for a Fall-ALS. Additional information provided by the dispatcher was that a person had fallen down approximately 14 steps. EMS units arrived onscene to find a patient that needed rapid transport to a trauma center via medical helicopter. Station 46 was then dispatched to East Ward Elementary School for a helicopter landing. Crews responded and set up a landing zone for Pennstar Medical Helicopter. The fire crew assisted EMS with loading the patient into the helicopter then cleared shortly after Pennstar lifted off the ground heading to a local trauma center. While both ambulances were out of station, Ambulance 46 got dispatched to the 100 block of Brandywine Ave for Lacerations-BLS. A crew with the proper medical personnel responded as a QRS until the ambulance could arrive. The third call of the day came at 1713 hours when Station 46 was dispatched to the 100 block of Pennsylvania Ave in the parking lot for a car fire. Chief 46 went enroute and arrived onscene to find no services needed from the fire department and recalled Station 46. The fourth and last call of the day came in just after 2100 hours when Station 46 was dispatched for one engine to assist the Ridge Fire Company (Station 62) on Ridge Rd. in Warwick Township, for additional manpower on the Fire Task Force at a barn fire. Fire units for the barn fire had already been working on scene for around 8 hours before Station 46 was dispatched to assist. Engine 46-2 went enroute with a full crew and respond at reduce rate. Engine 46-2 arrived onscene after a bit of a ride up to Warwick Township and staged with 3 other engines called for manpower. Engine 46-2's crew was utilized for clean-up then was cleared by command shortly after 2300 hours.

Thank you to the personnel that kept the Minquas apparatus responding all day.
