At 4:36pm Engine 46-1 and Engine 46-2 responded to a reported appliance fire at Woodmont North Apartments in East Caln Township. While enroute Chester County Fire Radio advised responding units that the fire was extinguished, but a smoke condition remained. Upon investigation crews found a range that had caught fire while the tenant was cooking due to an electrical problem. Due to quick thinking, the tenant used baking flour to suppress the flames and minimize the spread. It's important to use baking soda or baking flour to suppress flames while cooking. Using water could spread the fire especially if it's grease based.
We continue to remind everyone to check their smoke detectors regularly and change the batteries twice a year.
Earlier in the day Engine 46-1 and Engine 46-2 responded to an automatic fire alarm at 275 W. Uwchlan Avenue in East Caln Township. The alarm was activated due to cooking and no services were needed.
