At 05:19am Downingtown Fire Department along with Station 6 (West Whiteland Fire Company), Station 38 (Thorndale Fire Company), Station 47 (Lionville Fire Company) and Station 51 (First West Chester Fire Company) were dispatched to a building fire at the Woodmont North Apartments. During the response the assignment was upgraded to a building fire with entrapment due to residents being trapped on their balconies. Engine 46-1 secured a water supply and led off with an 1 3/4" handline to begin fire attack. The interior team made a quick knock on the fire and were able to keep it contained to the apartment and began a primary search. Additional crews from Alert Fire Company No. 1 and Lionville Fire Company assisted with rescuing the residents from their balconies via ladders and completing primary and secondary searches of the adjacent apartments. The incident was brought under control quickly.
