It is with deep regret that the Alert Fire Co. No. 1 of Downingtown, PA announces the following:

Whereas, the Almighty God, in his infinite wisdom has removed from our midst on Monday, August 26, 2024, one of our beloved brothers and Life Member, Dennis M. Lamb, 77, who was always found faithful in the discharge of his duties and whose every thought and purpose was for the welfare of his company and department. And, while we deeply regret and mourn the loss sustained in the death of our late brother, we bow in humble submission to the Divine Will.

Therefore, be it resolved that we, the members of the Alert Fire Co. No. 1 of Downingtown, PA, do hereby extend and convey to the bereaved family and friends our deep and heartfelt sympathy.

Dennis M. Lamb, 77, formally of Downingtown, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the Chester County Hospital in West Chester, after a short illness.

He was born and raised in Coatesville, and he was the son of the late Matthew and Elizabeth “Betty” (Scott) Lamb.

Denny started as a volunteer with the Washington Hose Co. No. 1 and the Brandywine Fire Co, No. 2 of Coatesville, in the 1970’s. He became an active volunteer firefighter at Alert on April 11, 1996, serving a total of 28 years at the time of his passing. During the time that he lived across the street from the firehouse and was active at Alert, where he served as Chaplain of the company. Denny was awarded his Lifetime Membership of Alert in July 2015.

Denny was at the firehouse almost daily and was a huge help with activities around the firehouse. He frequently cleaned the windows of the trucks and the Engine Room Bay doors, helped with fire prevention visits and fundraising events. However, the thing that Denny loved the most, was going to parades! He never missed a parade, and he helped in getting the trucks ready to go to the celebrations. When Denny moved to the east end of town, he joined the Minquas Fire Co. No. 2 and became the Chaplain for Minquas, as well. He was a dedicated volunteer and loved being a member of the Downingtown Fire Dept. Denny would always greet you with a smile and ask how your family was doing. Family was very important to him, and we are happy that he became part of the Downingtown Fire Dept. family.

Mr. Lamb was an active parishioner of the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Downingtown. In the past, he worked at JC Penney Dept. Store in Coatesville, The FireStore and different flower shops in the area.

He is survived by his sister Kathryn Noll (Donald) of Downingtown; brothers Richard Lamb (Linda) of Georgia and Douglas Lamb of Wayne; nieces and nephews: Michael, Jamie, Katie and Kyle; one great nephew and three great nieces.

Services will be conducted privately at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions in his memory can be made to the Downingtown Fire Dept., PO Box 296, Downingtown, PA 19335-0296.
