On Wednesday evening the career and volunteer personnel of the Downingtown Fire Department attended a live burn training at the Chester County Public Safety Training Campus in Coatesville. During our time there members were able to participate in multiple training evolutions that included: fire attack, search and rescue, hoseline advancement, water supply, and ground ladder placement.

Training in a live fire environment enables our personnel to train in realistic fire conditions we would find during a fire. It’s a great opportunity for our newly qualified interior firefighters to increase their skill set and build confidence in their ability. For our senior members they were able to refresh their skills and help teach our new members. Junior Firefighters were able to showcase their water supply skills and learn about the jobs they can perform on the exterior of a house or building fire.

We’d like to thank the instructors from Chester County for helping us, our EMS staff that was on standby for any potential medical emergencies, and Thorndale Fire Company for providing coverage to Downingtown Borough and East Caln while our members attended this training.
