On June 23rd members came together to celebrate FF/EMT Emma Diaz graduation from Firefighter I through the Chester County Fire Academy and Emergency Medical Technician Certification through Good Fellowship Ambulance & Training Institute .

Due to COVID-19 restrictions graduations for both these classes were cancelled. Our members gathered together along with Emma, her family and Downingtown Borough Mayor Phil Dague to recognize Emma for both her accomplishments. It's certainly not easy obtaining a certificate in Firefighter I and EMT at the same time.

Both Captain Larren Grygo and Assistant Chief Stephen L. Miller addressed everyone in attendance detailing the hard work that is required in Firefighter I and EMT. Downingtown Borough Mayor Phil Dague gave a speech celebrating Emma and thanking all Downingtown Fire Department first responders for their daily efforts in protecting the lives and property of the community. At the end Emma recited the Firefighters Oath thus completing her graduation.

Emma recently joined our fire company in April 2021. Her future plans are to attend paramedic school in Fall 2021.

Firefighter I is an entry level training course that all interior firefighters are required to complete to begin their volunteer firefighting service. In order to complete the class students must pass both a written and practical exam. It gives cadets the experience, knowledge, and basic tools to attend other trainings and certifications throughout the county, state, and nation. In order to complete the class students must pass both a written and practical exam.
