Today at approximately 3:21 PM, Downingtown Fire Department was dispatched to assist Thorndale Fire Company at the scene of an abandoned barn structure that was on fire in the area of the 5000 block of Horseshoe Pike, near Rock Raymond Road. Downingtown Police and Chief 39 arrived with an initial report of a 70 foot by 70 foot barn that was well involved in flames with extension to debris in the nearby corn field. Crews from both stations worked with multiple area departments to control the spread of fire into the surrounding woods and fields and extinguish the fire in the barn structure. Units cleared the scene at approximately 5:41 PM. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
