Turkey Fair: Continuing the Tradition

On Saturday, November 23rd, 2013 at 7:00PM Minquas' "annual" turkey fair tradition was rekindled in the new station on Wallace Avenue. Members invested a lot of time and dedication in preparation for the turkey fair by selling pre-sold 50-50 and raffle tickets, posting flyers throughout town, acquiring and setting up all the necessary tables and chairs, many of which borrowed from neighboring fire companies, and running the turkey fair itself. Fellow firefighters, social members, employees, friends, family, public figures, and residents of Minquas' first due came out in support of the fire company. Guests had an enjoyable night and the chance of going home with a turkey just in time for Thanksgiving. This year, in addition to a door prize and a 50-50 raffle different gift baskets and a case of paint were featured in raffle format. Free hot-dogs and refreshments were available, freshly baked cookies to be purchased, and beer was on tap from Victory Brewing (also Miller Light) - $10 for a bottomless mug. The turkey fair like many other fire company events is a tradition with great significance to the community and as a fundraiser for Minquas. Members have customary roles such as runners (selling of tickets/chances), the host, and other administrative/staffing positions. All in all it was a great turnout at our new location. The support of the community cannot be adequately described in words. All funds generated from the turkey fair will be put to good use in order to offset operating costs, purchase and/or replace equipment, in turn protecting Downingtown, East Caln Township, and surrounding municipalities.

A special thanks to all of Minquas' supporters who made the 2013 turkey fair possible!
