Blackout in the Borough

By Minquas Fire Company No. 2
March 21, 2010

In evening hours of Monday 3/21, Station 46 was simultaneously dispatched for two calls. The first incident was to the Dog House Restaurant for an automatic fire alarm, and the second to the area of W. Uwchlan Ave and Pennsylvania Ave for a wires call. Chief 46 quickly went enroute and advised to have the engine from 46 respond to the wires call and have station 45 handle the fire alarm. Engine 46-2 made a quick response and arrived onscene to confirm wires burning from pole to pole and notified PECO energy. Crews from Engine 46-2 controlled hazards and shut down Pennsylvania Ave for saftey reasons. Wires continued to burn actively until PECO arrived. Due to the severity of damage to the lines, power was shut down to a large portion of the Borough of Downingtown until damage could be repaired and then power was restored. After the fire was extinguished by PECO, Engine 46-2 returned to station.
