Multi Call Day for 46 House

By Minquas Fire Company No. 2
March 12, 2010

The day started off late for the 46 house.

Station 46 and Rescue 45 were dispatched in the early evening hours for an accident on the eastbound Rt 30 Bypass west of Rt 113 for an auto accident with unknown injuries. While enroute Chief 46 was advised that a tractor trailer was involved but the driver is not injured. Engine 46-2 made a quick response with a full crew, shortly followed by Squad 46. Chief 46 further advised incoming units that best access would be via Norwood Road and that there is confirmed entrapment. Crews from Engine 46-2 and Squad 46 arrived to find a sedan pinned backwards against a jersey barrier by a tractor trailer with one trapped. Crews quickly pulled a hose line for possible fire suppression and assisted EMS and Rescue 45 with extrication of the patient.

While units were heading back to Station 46, Downingtown Fire was alerted again to the area of South Bound Rt 113, north of the Rt 30 Bypass for an accident, reported serious. Chief 46 assumed command at the scene and requested a second BLS and ALS unit to the scene. Engine 46-2 arrived on scene and crews began securing the vehicle and attending to patient care. It was determined that one patient needed to be transported via Air Medical. Engine 46-1 responded and utilized East Ward Elementary School to land the helicopter. Pennstar was dispatched and assumed care of the patient.

Later that night during our weekly drill night while 45 and 46 crews were reviewing our air packs in a joint drill, Stations 47, 6, and 46 were alerted to the Brickside Bar and Grill for a building fire with reports of fire coming from the roof. Engine 46-2 made a quick response with a full crew. Station 47 chief officers arrived on scene to find a chimney fire. After the situation was under control units cleared from the scene and Engine 46-2 returned to the borough.
