On Sunday morning, at 2:00 AM, Station 46 was dispatched to assist the Uwchlan Ambulance (Station 87) for an EMS Assist. The report stated that the homeowner's driveway had not been plowed yet from the previous day's snowstorm and the ambulance would require assistance with patient packaging. Squad 46 went quickly en-route with a crew of 4. Also, assisting were Ambulance 46-1 and Medic 46-1. Upon arrival, crews led off with a snowblower and shovels and created a 3 1/2 x 200 foot path up the driveway to the homeowner's garage. EMS crews packaged the patient in a reeves stretcher while crews completed the snow removal process. With some quick thinking by Career EMT Bill Salinsky crews were able to slide the patient down the driveway on the reeves stretcher. This was a quick, efficient, but even more importantly, safe way to get the patient to the ambulance.
Squad 46 was outfitted with a snowblower, 6 shovels, salt, a generator, fuel, and a qualified crew of professionals for the duration of the snow storm that impacted the Downingtown region this weekend. We now like to call this vehicle Weather Response 46.
