The Minquas Fire Company #2 continued to be busy again on Monday, January 18. Station 46 ran a total of four calls starting at 5:15pm and ending around 1:30am Tuesday morning.
The first call for the Downingtown Fire Department was an Automatic Fire Alarm at the Colonial Apartments in the Borough of Downingtown. The assignment was upgraded when a tenant called in and reported the complex was full of smoke. By upgrading the assignment, Chester County Fire Radio added both full company responses from Stations 45 and 46. Engine 46-1, Engine 46-2, and Air 46 all made the quick response to the scene. Upon investigation the cause of smoke in the dwelling was determined to be an appliance fire, and crews ventilated the complex using positive pressure fans and reset the fire alarm. All Downingtown Fire Department units cleared from the incident in about an hour.
The second call for the Downingtown Fire Department was another Automatic Fire Alarm at the Woodmont North Apartments in East Caln Township. Engine 46-1 made the response with a full crew of 6. Upon arrival Chief 46 advised the crew from both Engine 46-1 and Tower 45 to investigate the building for any tripped pull stations or smoke detector heads. It was determined cooking set off the smoke detector and crews from both Tower 45 and Engine 46-1 reset the alarm and all residents were allowed to go back into their apartments. All Downingtown Fire Department units cleared the incident in about 45 minutes.
The third call for the Downingtown Fire Department was a report of an auto accident at the intersection of Bell Tavern and East Lancaster Avenue. Engine 46-2 and Rescue 45 both made quick responses and while enroute it was determined that Rescue 45 would pop the driver's door and also remove the roof to gain better access to the patient. When Engine 46-2 arrived on scene they were advised by Assistant Chief 46 and Chief 46 to pull the front bumper hand line for safety purposes and standby if needed. Engine 46-1 also made the response and stood by at Bell Tavern Park in case a helicopter was needed. The patient was quickly and safely removed from the car thanks to the efforts from Rescue 45's crew and the ambulance crew. After the patient was transported to a local hospital, crews used oil dry to secure hazards at the scene. All Downingtown Fire Department units cleared the incident in about an hour and a half.
The last call was a request for Air 46 to assist the West Chester Fire Department for usage of our air bank on their working building fire in West Goshen. Air 46 made the quick response with a crew of 3. While on scene the crew filled a total of 39 air cylinders for both the West Chester Fire Department (Stations 51, 52, 53) and the Goshen Fire Company (Stations 54, 56). Also while on scene Air 46 assisted with scene lighting. The crew cleared and returned to station around 1:30am on Tuesday morning.
